Description
Phenobarbitone 30mg Tablets 100’s is a prescription medicine used to treat and prevent the symptoms of seizures, sedation, hypnotics, Insomnia, and Status Epilepticus. Phenobarbital may be used alone or with other medications.
Phenobarbital belongs to a class of drugs called Anticonvulsants, Barbiturates.
Phenobarbital is a barbiturate, nonselective central nervous system depressant which is primarily used as a sedative hypnotic and also as an anticonvulsant in subhypnotic doses.
Phenobarbital Tablets and Elixir are administered orally and are contained in DEA Schedule IV. Barbiturates are substituted pyrimidine derivatives in which the basic structure common to these drugs is barbituric acid, a substance which has no central nervous system (CNS) activity.
Phenobarbitone 30mg Tablets 100’s may cause serious side effects including:
- weak or shallow breathing,
- unusual pain anywhere in your body (especially in the neck, shoulders or arms),
- pale skin,
- muscle weakness,
- diarrhea,
- weight loss,
- rapid heart rate,
- tongue swelling,
Therapeutic indications
The treatment and control of all forms of epilepsy, except absence seizures.
Phenobarbitone 30mg Tablets 100’s should only be used in the treatment of febrile convulsions in
exceptional circumstances.
